This rack is relatively easy to assemble. It's heavy, but one person can handle getting it off the car and back onto the garage wall, though two is better.

I like the fact that we don't have to add a piece to the frame of the girl's bike to attach it to the rack. My fear was that I wouldn't attach that piece on well enough and the bike would drop on to the road.

This rack allows the bikes to sit in a trough and the straps attach at the wheels to secure it.

Four Bikes not Five : Yakima DoubleDown 5-Bike Hitch Mount Rack : bike parts

We haven't even left on our trip yet and I struggled trying to get five bikes on the 5 Double Down. The rack seems fine and sturdy, but I bought this rack so that I could fit all five of the family bikes on the back. Needless to say, we will be placing one of the bikes in the interior of the van. Not happy!!
I purchased the Yakima over the Thule based on the length being longer hoping for the best. Granted I have two 26" bikes and three 24" bikes, but after all of the reviews I read I was sure that I would be able to somehow work all five on. The five bikes are mountain bikes with some of the odd designs which posed a problem. I did purchase one of the tube tops for the girls 24" bike which seemed to help. To me, it seems this rack is for the common straight across road bike which would allow for the easy mount and anti-sway cradles to work.
As someone else wrote, "if you are going to mount three bikes, get a four bike rack. If you are going to mount four bikes, get a five bike rack." I wish there was a six bike rack because I would purchase it for my five bikes. If there is an extension for the five Double Down, would someone let me know?
I'll let you know how the rack holds up during the trip. For the way home, I may try something different by removing wheels and pedals which seemed to be a lot of the problem during the mount.

My husband had no problem getting it on or off. We recently went on vacation and used it to transport 4 bikes (2 adult, 2 older children) and were able to get them on fairly easily. 4 adults size bikes might be a tight fit. Our trip was 2 hours mostly highway driving going approximately 65-70 mph and we had no issues with the bikes coming lose. The bikes did bounce a bit but stayed secure to the rack. We used the black rubber holders but it also comes with another fastener which straps everything together to the rack for added protection just in case a strap comes lose or lets go. As for people stealing the rack off the car, we vacation on Cape Cod and left the rack on all week and I'm happy to say we still have it. I've already had 2 people at work ask about the rack because they liked the looks of it so much. I've recommended it to both.
